The trading terminal behind most modern automated trading software — explained without assuming you already know.
MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is a trading platform — the software you actually open to place trades, watch charts, and run automation like an Expert Advisor (EA). It's built by MetaQuotes, the same company behind the older MetaTrader 4 (MT4), and it's become the default choice for brokers launching new account types because of faster order execution and broader market support.
For a retail trader, MT5 does three things that matter: it connects to your broker account and shows live prices; it lets you place trades manually if you want to; and — most relevant here — it can run an Expert Advisor, a coded program that trades automatically on your behalf, following a fixed rule-set instead of manual clicks.
MT5 differs from MT4 mainly in execution speed and the range of instruments it handles well — MT5 was designed with multi-asset trading in mind (forex, stocks, futures, commodities), while MT4 was built forex-first. For an AI trading platform like StealthX, that matters: as we extend beyond forex into gold and crypto, MT5's broader native support makes it the platform new symbols ship to first.
You don't need to understand MT5's internals to use an MT5 trading bot — you need a broker account that supports it (ours runs on Exness), and the actual EA file installed correctly. See our EA Setup & Installation Guide for the exact steps, or read MT4 vs MT5 if you're deciding which to open an account on.
MT5 is the terminal your AI trading bot actually runs inside — faster and more multi-asset-ready than its predecessor, MT4.
